Outback Adventures Job Posting
Outback Adventures is the Bay Area's leading outdoor adventure guide service, rental outfitter, and specialty retailer with two Bay Area retail locations and three on-water locations. Throughout the summer months at our stores, we operate a full service kayak and paddleboard shop and outdoor sports equipment rental center. During the winter months we rent skis, snowboards, and mountaineering equipment with an emphasis on renting and selling Nordic and backcountry skis. We are the largest adventure outfitter in the Bay Area offering classes and trips for kayaking, rock climbing, stand up paddleboarding, backpacking, and mountaineering. We offer kayak and paddleboard rentals at Stevens Creek Reservoir in Cupertino, Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore, and on the Corte Madera Creek at our Marin store location.
Outback Adventures has the following positions available:
- Sales Staff - Available in Larkspur (full or part time) and Fremont (part time)
- Outdoor Guide / Instructor positions - Available throughout the Bay Area
- Rental Attendant-- Lake Del Valle (seasonal part time or full time*).
- Rental Attendant-- Stevens Creek Reservoir (seasonal part time*)
*Flexible applicants may have opportunities to work at one of our retail stores for a year-round and full time position.
Store Staff: Duties include retail sales, operating the cash register, rentals, stocking merchandise, moving kayaks and equipment, and customer service. This position is available primarily at our Marin location, but part time openings may be considered for the Fremont location as well.
Outdoor Guide / Instructor: Positions include instructing, leading, and guiding clients in wilderness environments while keeping client care and safety as top priority. Currently we are seeking kayaking, paddleboarding, mountaineering, and rock climbing guides, but applicants with experience in other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Rental Attendant: Duties include customer service, renting kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes, moving rental equipment, basic instruction, and giving customers safety talks. This position is available at both Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore and at Stevens Creek Reservoir in Cupertino.

Sales Staff: Previous work experience in the outdoor industry is helpful, but not mandatory. Previous retail or service industry experience preferred. Personal outdoor experience in some area is essential. Must be able to lift kayaks and other heavy objects with assistance. Applicants must be reliable, thorough, honest, and professional. Weekend availability is required. Those with web and social marketing skills may have additional opportunities.
Outdoor Guide / Instructor: Guide and Instructor applicants must have extensive personal experience in a particular outdoor recreation discipline. Currently we are seeking kayaking, paddleboarding, and rock climbing guides, but applicants with experience in other disciplines are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in the educational or outdoor field is helpful. Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness first aid training is desired and basic first aid training is required. First Aid training may be obtained shortly after being accepted for the job. Applicant must be in good physical condition and able to carry heavy equipment such as a kayak or a fully loaded backpack. Weekend availability is needed. For certain kayaking and paddleboarding guide positions we are willing to offer training.
Rental Attendant: Previous work experience in the outdoor industry is helpful, but not mandatory. Previous retail or service industry experience is also helpful. Personal outdoor or athletic experience in some area is essential. The applicant must be able to lift kayaks and paddleboards, and other heavy objects with assistance. Those who speak both English and Spanish may have additional opportunities. Applicants must be reliable, thorough, honest, and professional. Weekend availability is required.
