Rental Policies
In
Store Rentals - Stevens Creek Reservoir -
Corte Madera Creek
In Store Rental Policies
- Reservations require a full payment and
can be made by phone or in person.
- For a full refund less a $10 fee, rental
reservations must be cancelled 3 days
(7 days for kayaks) before the pick-up date
for non-holiday reservations. Example:
If a reservation is scheduled for pick-up on Friday,
the cancellation must occur on or before Tuesday. No refunds
will be issued after
the cancellation period. Cancellations are not accepted
during the weeks
that include
holidays.
- Valid personal ID/driver license and
security/rental deposits are required for all rentals.
- Security/rental deposits must be placed
in person with a credit card or cash. The deposit amount
is approximately the retail value of the items being rented.
- Deposits with a credit card will be preauthorized
for the full deposit amount.
You must have enough available
credit on your credit
card to process the preauthorization.
The preauthorization is automatically removed if the rental
items are returned without incident. A preauthorization
is not a charge to your credit card, but can result in
one if items are lost, stolen, damaged, dirty, wet, not
returned, or late. Please note that we do not accept American
Express.
- Debit and Check cards, even those with
Visa or Master Card symbols can not be preauthorized for
use as a securuty deposit. In this case,
the only option is to actually charge the debit/check
card for use as a deposit.
The
amount
charged
will
be
refunded
when the rental items are returned without incident. Since
we are charged a fee by credit card companies for this
transaction, the transaction amount will be subject to
a 2% fee. Sorry, no exceptions. This policy applies only
to debit and check cards, not credit cards.
- Items that are lost, stolen, or not
returned will be charged at full
retail.
- A minimum charge of $15 will be applied
to each item returned damaged, dirty, or wet.
- Late returns will be charged the "Per
Day Late Fee" as noted on the price list.
- No refunds will be given for early and
unused returns.
- Rentals can be picked up and returned
anytime during store hours.
- During holiday time periods, advanced
reservations are not accepted for the 1 day rate.
- San Jose store only: During Winter, the
1 day rate is not available for Friday pick-ups.
- All participants must read and sign a
liability release waiver and acknowledgement of risk form
releasing Outback Adventures and all of their officers,
agents, and employees from liability. Participants under
the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign on their

Specific Details:
- Kayak Rentals - Recreational
kayaks are issued for all rentals unless you have taken
a class that
covered capsizing and re-entries or can specifically demonstrate
your experience and knowledge in performing a solo re-entry.
- Mountaineering
Rentals - If you are renting
crampons for your personal boots, you must bring the
boots in for us to test their compatibility. Your boots
must
be very stiff throughout their length to rent standard
rigid step-in crampons. If they are not compatible with
the rigid step in crampons, you may rent flexible crampons
as long
as your boots are
reasonably
supportive and compatible.
- Boot
Rentals - It is highly recommended that you
come in prior to your pick-up day to get sized for
all footwear.
- Alpine Ski Rentals -
Customers who need our ski boots fitted to their personal
skis must have the ski bindings adjusted
and torque tested.
- Randonee
Ski Rentals - Randonee binding release
systems are not regulated by the alpine binding industry
therefore we will set the boot to the bindings, but we will
not set the release of the binding.
- Consumables -
Items such as batteries, fuel, and lantern mantles must
be purchased separately.
