Rock Climbing at Joshua Tree National
Park
Joshua Tree is one of the top rock climbing
destinations in the United States. Its location in the southern
California high desert provides good climbing days throughout
spring and fall, and an unforgettable setting for a climbing
adventure. The bizarre Joshua Tree adds an otherworldly feel
to the landscape and provides a background to the thousands
of rock climbs and countless boulders. The climbing routes
average about 60 to 150 feet in length, and many follow perfect
cracks
or spectacular aretes and faces. The rock is granite, similar
to what is found in Yosemite and the Sierras, and amazingly
featured. A wide variety of climbs at all levels of difficulty
make Joshua Tree the perfect rock climbing destination, and
well worth the drive! Outback Adventures does not lead trips to this climbing area due to its distance and hot summer temperatures. Please see the rock climbing trips and classes section of our website for Bay Area Rock Climbing locations.
