Beyond Basics Rock Climbing

A great course for developing outdoor rock climbers - Level 2

Go beyond the basics with this informative and enjoyable course. Our instructors provide valuable feedback while you push your climbing ability on challenging routes. You will learn techniques for cracks, slab climbing, route finding, energy conservation, and much more. We will also cover basic top-rope anchor set-up and evaluation, as well as safe rappelling procedures.

Prerequistes:

Intro to Rock Climbing Class

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothes for cold and hot weather
  • Shoes or boots with good traction
  • 2-3 quarts of water
  • Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Retainer straps for glasses
  • Personal climbing gear (optional and subject to instructor / guide approval)
  • Medium size backpack to carry your items
  • Consider bringing a tip for your instructor / guide for exceptional service

Directions to Castle Rock State Park From San Jose

From San Jose, take Highway 85 North to the Saratoga Avenue exit. Turn left (Southwest) and follow the road through downtown Saratoga. Once in downtown Saratoga you will be on Highway 9. Continue on Highway 9 until you reach the stop sign at the summit. Turn left onto Skyline Boulevard. Follow the road for a few miles. The park will be located on your right. If you park in the main parking lot you will have to pay a $6 day use fee. Please allow yourself at least 30 minutes to get to Castle Rock after exiting Highway 85. Last food and gas is located in downtown Saratoga.

Meeting Place: Meet just outside the main parking lot at Castle Rock State Park.

Directions to Mount Tamalpais from San Francisco

From San Francisco, go North on 101. When you are just North of Sausalito, take the Highway 1 North exit towards Stinson Beach. Stay on Highway 1 through town and continue for a little over three miles. Turn right onto Panoramic Highway and continue up the road towards Mt. Tamapais. Follow the signs toward the East Summit and continue all the way to the end of the road where you will find a large parking lot. Please be prepared for the parking fee of $8. There is a rest room, refreshment stand, and drinking water. Please allow yourself at least 30 minutes to get to Mount Tamalpais after exiting Highway 101. Last food and gas is located in Tamalpais Valley Junction, just off Highway 101.

Meeting Place: Meet at the Mount Tamalpais East Peak parking area next to the restrooms.
