Trip Details
Class Description: Being
prepared for the unexpected is a critical part of being a safe
rock climber. This intensive course will introduce such skills
as alternative ascending, belaying and rappelling techniques,
belay escapes, lowering and raising systems, rappel backups,
and self-rescue strategies.
What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothes for cold and hot weather
- Shoes or boots with good traction
- 2-3 quarts of water
- Food (sandwich, fruit, energy bars)
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Retainer straps for glasses
- Medium size backpack to carry your items
- Consider bringing a tip for your instructor / guide for
exceptional service
Optional: Any personal climbing gear that you would like to
use for your class. Gear will be inspected and approved by
your guide on the day of the course.

Time: 9:00
AM to approximately 4:00 PM.

- Experienced, friendly guides
Directions from San
Jose: From San Jose take Highway 85 north to the Saratoga
Ave exit. Turn left, southwest, and follow the road through
downtown Saratoga. Once in downtown Saratoga you will be
on Highway 9. Continue on Highway 9 until you reach the stop
sign at the summit. Turn left onto Skyline Blvd. Follow the
road for a couple of miles. There will be a dirt parking
lot on your left with a telephone pole located in the middle
of the turnoff, and a small sign for summit rock. Park in
this lot and you will meet your guide there.
